It was both a very long year and a short one. So many books, and so very very little time and my TBR pile keeps getting bigger and bigger. At the beginning of the year, I set myself a challenge to read a few books that had been lingering in the back of my head, some for years. You can read the original post here. Out of the original ten books mentioned, I only accomplished 3 of them. It wasn’t for lack of trying though.
The Original Ten
Watchman by Alan Moore – This book has been nagging at me for years to be read. My issue with it is the nihilism. It is a powerful book, I have read a quarter of it twice, but I feel like I need a cupcake and a kitten to recover after reading sessions.

Habibi by Craig Thompson – Yaaas queen. I read you. I read the hell out of you. I then reviewed you and gave you five stars. You are a beautiful, beautiful snowflake.
War of the Oaks by Emma Bull – I wanted to read this but I had a difficult time sourcing it and it went into the back of my mind and stayed there.
Kill the Dead by Richard Kadrey – Yes. Such a great book and I was so happy to get back into Sandman Slim.

Annihilation by Jeff Vandomeer – Nope. I didn’t get a chance to read this. Still, I want to get into this world and stay a while though. Vandomeer is an intense writer.
Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss – If you have read this blog at all, you would know that I adore Pat. Great writing and frankly he is a bit of a bad-ass. The only reason I haven’t read this is that I would want to go back and read previous books to be ready for it and I didn’t have the time this year to indulge myself.
Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson – Again. Same problem as Wise Man’s Fear. I would like to go back and reread the first book.
The Algebraist by Iain Banks โ This comes highly recommended. It looks very interesting and it is still a gaping hole in my science fiction repertoire.
Doubleblind by Ann Aguire โ I completely forgot about this series, again. I read the first two books years ago, but at the time there was only two. So.. frustration. Now there is six. Say what! Shut yo mouth.
Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King – Yes. I did end up reading this, and it was a slog. No offense to Stephen King, but this book was entirely not for me.
Some Worthy Mentions
Vox by Christina Dalcher – A book that has been sitting in my TBR pile waiting to be read. Maybe next year, looks like such an original premise.
Ship of Smoke and Steel by Django Wexler – Another great looking book that I want to take a dive into.
I know what you mean about the TBR list.
It just gets bigger and bigger lol
Totally understand your struggles, there are always NEW BOOKS! My poor TBR ๐
Pretty soon I am going to have to give up sleeping all together.
HAHAHAHA, oh nooo. I guess we just gotta accept that our TBR will never get lesser. It’s just a fact that we got to live with ๐
It isn’t a bad problem to have. We really are living in a wondrous time for books.
