Whalesong is book three of the Arcana Imperii series that includes Artifact Space, Deep Black,
and the short story collection Beyond the Fringe. Those who have been reading the series already
know how Christian “Miles” Cameron’s writing chops, military/intelligence background, and
historical knowledge are on full display in this incredible series. The Arcana Imperii series is
packed with high-stakes space battles, first contact scenarios, and thought-provoking
explorations of AI. At the same time, it doesn’t shy away from more grounded slice-of-life
moments that fans of cozy fantasy will love, such as the crew drinking way too much coffee
while spending time with found family. It’s a series that balances scope and intimacy in a way
that’s rare and deeply satisfying.
Whalesong builds on all of that but also shifts into new territory. It alters the main point-of-view
character and provides a thrilling sci-fi spy novel experience. Expect secrets, sabotage, and
suspense layered into the already rich backdrop of the universe that readers have come to know
and love.

Gorgeous, right? Readers of the series with a keen eye will observe that while the cover harkens
back to the style seen in previous installments in the series, we have some intriguing fresh
aspects as well. This includes a new spacecraft and a burning sun that may just play a central role

About the Author: Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1962. He grew up in
Rockport, Massachusetts, Iowa City, Iowa, and Rochester, New York, where he attended
McQuaid Jesuit High School and later graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in history.
After the longest undergraduate degree on record (1980-87), He joined the United States Navy,
where he served as an intelligence officer and as a backseater in S-3 Vikings in the First Gulf
War, and then on the ground in Somalia, and elsewhere. After a dozen years of service, he
became a full time writer in 2000. He lives in Toronto (that’s Ontario, in Canada) with his wife
Sarah and his daughter Beatrice. He’s a full time novelist, and it is the best job in the world.
