What inspired you to write this book?
Can you tell us a little bit about your writing or editing process? What’s most exciting to you about writing or editing?
Many stories talk about legendary heroes and prophesied events – Dual Fires is unique because it is really about the interpretation of those legends.
What makes your SPFBOX book unique?
Do you have a favourite character from your SPFBOX entry? Tell us about them!
I’ve wanted to write a book for a long time, but the dark days of COVID gave me the final push.
What do you hope readers take away from your SPFBOX entry?
Dual Fires
Some are called by Destiny. Some stumble into it.
Gyver Lightbreather is meant for greatness, and he will achieve it on his own terms. A possessor of light-powered abilities, he dreams of becoming his people’s most heroic warrior. Working beyond the Quorum of Light’s influence, and running from his family’s fallen past, he will do whatever it takes to stake his place in history. But a desperate boast leads him to startling discoveries and to a path even he may not live up to. Joined by his unassuming sidekick, Hessen Airbreather, Gyver must navigate the perils the Darkness has planned for him… and the dangers the Light will illuminate as well.

J.L. Anderson grew up in Orem, Utah where he spent most of his childhood thinking about two subjects: sports and books. With his dreams of playing professional basketball shattered early in life, he grew up daydreaming about fantastical worlds and magical wonders from the books he read. As an adult now living in Texas, he has continued his passion for the written word, reading constantly and studying creative writing any chance he gets. His debut novel, Dual Fires, puts a twist on epic stories of destiny and what it takes to become a hero.
